Hide RSS from Search Engines
Many podcasters need to deliver a secure podcast RSS feed directly to their listeners, without their feed being made searchable online or available on public directories.
Simplecast allows you to block the indexing of your RSS Feed from search engines and listening apps. Listeners will only be able to find your RSS Feed if you directly share the link.
Checking the box for for 'Block RSS Feed' will remove the show from
Apple Podcasts & Google Podcasts if previously submitted and active.
The following tags are automatically added to your RSS Feed once
you check the box and click on 'Save':
To Block RSS Feed Indexing:
- Click on the drop-down menu in the top-left corner of your Simplecast dashboard next to your Show Title
- Click on the Gear Icon
- Click on 'Show Distribution' in the left sidebar
- Click on the Gear Icon next to your RSS Feed
- Check the box for 'Block RSS Feed'
- Click 'Save' to commit changes
Some search engine web crawlers might interpret the implementation of this feature differently. As a result, it is possible that your feed might still appear in results from some search engines.
You can select Disable Podcast RSS Feed if you do not want listeners or apps to access your RSS Feed. If checked, the RSS Feed will be disabled and will prevent you from submitting to Apple Podcasts and other directories.
If you would like to read more on this subject visit Google's documentation article, Block search indexing with 'noindex'.
