It's easy (and free) to move your podcast from your current host into Simplecast. You'll just need your show's current RSS feed URL to get started. The import will make a copy of your current show, but will not change your current hosting setup.

Don't have an existing Simplecast account yet? You can click here to start a free 14 day trial. You don't need to enter billing information to get your show moved over either.

Watch this quick tutorial video to get started or follow the steps below.

Moving Your Show to Simplecast

1. Log into your existing Simplecast account, or create a new Simplecast account.

2. Select “Import a Podcast”.

Paste your existing podcast RSS feed URL into the field and select Validate RSS Feed. Not sure what your show's current RSS feed URL is? Search for it here.

After your feed is validated, the IMPORT button will display. Click it to proceed.

Simplecast will now make a copy of your existing show into your new account. You should see the name of your show in the top left side of your show's dashboard, along with a message that your episodes are being imported.

3. Go to your Podcast Settings page and make sure the information about your show that was imported is correct.

This is a good time to make any updates to your show details, if you'd like to. Double check the information that was imported, make any changes if you need to, then save your changes.

⭐️ Tip: If you have a large number of episodes to import, the process may take some time, but you'll start seeing episodes and other information showing up in your Simplecast dashboard soon. Grab some coffee or tea and by the time you get back everything should be ready to go. Hit refresh in your browser after a few minutes and you should see your episodes showing up. If your episodes don't start showing up after 5-10 minutes, feel free to reach out to our support team for assistance.

Updating the Podcast Directories and Your Subscribers

Once your show has been imported into your new Simplecast account, you'll need to add a 301 redirect to your show's previous RSS feed to update your subscribers to use your show's new feed.

You'll also want to provide your show's new RSS feed URL to any podcast directories (Apple, Spotify, etc) who are currently using your show's previous RSS feed.

1. Enter your billing information to activate your show's new RSS feed.

Once your episodes are imported and you've had time to look around, head over to Account Settings and enter your credit or debit card information. This will activate your show's new RSS feed.

⭐️ Tip: You'll need to enter your card information to activate your show's RSS feed, but you won't be charged anything until your free 14 day trial period is up.

2. Visit the Sharing page in your Simplecast dashboard, and copy your show's new RSS feed URL (the link to your feed).

You'll update the podcast directories and create a subscriber redirect to your previous feed using this URL/link. More on this in a second.

3.  Add a 301 redirect to your show's previous (old) RSS feed.

A 301 redirect is a line of code that needs to be added to your feed that will forward anyone who visits that feed over to a new feed URL. It’s kind of like setting up a mail forward for an address you're no longer living at.

Your podcast host should provide a way for you to add a 301 redirect to your old feed if you’ve moved your show to a new host and have a new feed set up for it.

Here are help articles for how to add a redirect to a feed in a few popular hosts:

4. Log in to Apple Podcasts and any other directories and replace your show's previous RSS feed URL with your new RSS feed URL.

The 301 redirect that you added to your show feed should update the podcast directories and your subscribers to use your show's new RSS feed, but it's a good idea to make sure that Apple and the other podcast directories have been updated to use your new RSS feed.

We've got a list of links along with instructions for how to do that here.

Once you've updated the podcast directories and added the redirect to your previous feed, you're done!

Publish a new episode in Simplecast and make a minor update or two to your show information to confirm that the podcast directories and your subscribers are updated, then it should be OK to close your previous hosting account.

Importing FAQ

Q: Will my stats from my previous host migrate over?

Unfortunately no. Stats/analytics don't migrate over, regardless of the host or who you're migrating to. For this reason, we encourage downloading a copy of your current stats for your own records if you can.

Q: Will I lose any of my subscribers when I import?

There are a couple steps to follow to ensure that you don't lose any subscribers.

First, add a 301 redirect to your show's previous RSS feed so that any subscribers who visit that feed will be directed to your new RSS feed.

Most podcast hosts make it easy to add a redirect to a feed, but in some cases, you may need to email customer support and request that they set up a 301 redirect to your new Simplecast RSS feed URL.

Second, for extra measure and to speed up the process you can update your RSS feed URL for the following podcast directories:

Q: What else can I do with Simplecast once I've finished importing my show?

Once you've finished importing your podcast into Simplecast, here are a few next steps:

  1. Invite other people to help you manage your podcast
  2. Create and publish new episodes
  3. Share your podcast episodes on social media or on your website
